EXPEDITION LIFE

Where?
This southern part of the Costa Blanca is in the Murcia region with easy access by the motorway to Murcia town, Cartagena, and then further south to Almería and the Costa del Sol. It is a region lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor, a great salt-water sea lagoon with its salt marshes, ecosystems, islands and unique flora and fauna.

Murcia, (bordered to the north by Alicante and the South by Almería) remains an area least affected by tourism and even today preserves whole areas of virgin coastline, and the diving is incredible. The region has an exceptionally pleasant microclimate as the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range provide a very effective shelter. Murcia is known as the most fertile region in Spain and has the finest produce: vegetables, fruit and superb tasting garden produce. The countryside around Murcia is fairly wild, although interspersed with greenery, both natural and cultivated in the form of olive groves and citrus plantations and palm forests.

Climate
The weather in Murcia is between 18 and 32 degrees year-round, making it an ideal destination for a long weekend, a weeks break or some diving when its too cold in the uk.

Accommodation
You will stay in local accommodation: an apartment of high standard in La Managa. Transport to the dive centre will be provided every day. All rooms are based on two people sharing, although single people are, of course, welcome. In the past we have had solo clients offer to share rooms with other solo clients to avoid paying the single supplement.

Food
Your breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided every day during your stay on the trip. You will have the opportunity to sample traditional Spanish cuisine. This will range from fine seafoods, paella and tapas. The group will mainly eat together but there is also the opportunity to dine in smaller groups.

A Day in the Life
The days will be varied. One day you will be diving in the marine park or snorkelling in the mar menor, another trekking in stunning National Parks and soaking up the sights and sounds of Murcia. The group will dive as a team with your trip leader. When not diving the team will be busy enjoying what the region has to offer or relaxing in the Spanish sun.

Who else is going?
Diving and marine enthusiasts from all around the world! Your team will be 8 people of a variety of ages and backgrounds. Regardless of age, all volunteers have one thing in common – an enthusiasm for fantastic scuba diving.

For this expedition all volunteers need to be PADI Advanced Open Water divers (AOW). However, pre-expedition additional dive training can be organised if you do not currently hold these dive qualifications. Please see our 'Dive Information and Departure Dates' section for further information.
