Honduras Community & Marine Conservation Project cost breakdown

TOTAL COST £2495 for 6 weeks in Honduras (£2,195 + £300 = £2,495)


Quest Overseas To you:

£ 2,195

  • Pre-departure training and preparation
  • Pre-departure Info-website access
  • Project Leader wages, flights and on the ground expenses
  • Project Leader training
  • Safety equipment and first aid kit, emergency contingency planning, continual risk assessments.
  • Repatriation assistance and emergency back-up funds
  • Quest Overseas UK staff costs – pre-departure support and 24 hour back-up from the UK, including 24 hour communication availability with leaders.
  • Quest Overseas expedition doctor – 24-hour medical advice and support when you are overseas.
  • Negotiating with flight companies and insurers to provide the best deal for you.
  • Your Quest T-shirt!

Short term costs:

  • OW and AOW courses or 4 specialty courses for certified divers (EANx, PPB, Fish ID, Underwater photography)
  • 18 scuba dives during the project
  • All diving equipment
  • Research Materials including dive cameras, lap top computers
  • Funds for local community projects and environmental education days
  • Accommodation, all food, beds, pillows, lighting, cooking facilities
  • Local staff wages for any project work
  • All on the ground transport
  • Communications for project - mobile phones and internet costs

Weekend activities and orientation in Honduras

  • In-country orientation and training days
  • 2 scuba dives each Saturday
  • accommodation & food on weekends off

To the project:

  • Year round planning and development of project- including assessing aims and objectives for the project in the short, medium and long term
  • Recces by Operations Managers to assess validity of project aims, maintain quality of project site and continually check conditions for volunteers

To Quest:

  • Selection costs associated with volunteers (Interview/Open Afternoon, support when signing up)
  • Selection costs associated with Project Leader
  • Marketing and administration costs
  • Office rental and costs

N.B. Emergency reserve fund to cover costs incurred in any unforeseen circumstances, which

would not be covered by personal travel insurance. Where this fund is not utilised, the

funds are fed back into the company to develop future expeditions.

Project Donation:

£300 Includes

Medium term support:

  • Maintenance and upkeep of project over the next year

Long term commitment:

  • Includes Direct donation of £300 into the Quest Trust Fund for Utila, which will go towards the long term development of the local marine science and ecology institute, providing resources for conservation and scientific literature. £100 of this donation will also be used for community project during the groups stay.
